According to the original Peanuts adventures Charlie never learns. Charlie is like a drunkard, he knows it is bad, he knows he should not try to hit the ball again, but still there is a special voice that always mess with his better judgment..

Charlie knows but what happen is that he still have a side of him that believes he is capable of something. Despite all the thing the world does to him and his outlook he has a bit of innocence, that there is a possibility of success even for someone like him.

Which makes it all the more funnier when his expectation get pulled away right in front of him as he is about to finally do it. It's sad but at the same time hilarious, with hilarity out weighing the sadness.

It also makes it all the more better when he does finally succeed in doing something.

There is one Sunday strip where Rerun holds the football in Lucy's place. The results of that day were never known, much to Lucy's frustration. So who knows? Maybe Charlie Brown actually did kick the football that day. Maybe one day Remilia will... kick whatever it is she's trying to kick. The occult ball, I guess.
