Also, I used to live close to a place in New Zealand that specialized in the manufacture of imitation (and real) crab meat. Picked up basic Japanese hanging out with the crowds there. That's sad, because a lot of the fish used in the production of that imitation stuff is actually really good by itself.

Must be some damn good imitation crab, since in my experience, all the ones I've tried taste terrible compared to real crab.

Flavor-wise, the real one may not compare. But if you're looking for texture, then the imitation crab still has a long way to go. Unless the more expensive ones already done that.
