Since Japan and China are neighbours, how important is aircraft carriers if they are to have any conflict ? Can't they just send airplanes from land base to each others ?

If Abe ever put F-35s on the Izumos, then the Japanese people would be singing March of the Volunteers (the national anthem of the PRC) within a year.
(For those who don't get what I'm on about: China would freak out and invade Japan, seeing Japan's ability to project their firepower as an act of remilitarisation.)
