Well, to be fair, that's how I learned to drive before I got my license. It helps that my grandfather is a good driving instructor. One month later, passed the driver's license test with flying colors.

I expect Maruyu to be surprisingly competent at driving. But, since it's raining...

Up to one year imprisonment and/or 300,000 yen fine (and of course, disqualification to take the absurdly difficult drivers test for a while - there's a reason why a lot of Japanese people never bother to get a driver's licence). And if you're a foreign national, you'll get deported and banned from re-entry for some time after being released from prison/paid your fine.

But if shipgirls are classified as 'autonomous weapons systems', then driving a car would mean that it's, essentially, a self-driving vehicle as there is no 'human' driver behind the wheel...

I read this to get an idea what you meant by absurdly difficult driving test. That is one expensive and time consuming license.
