Sometimes I wonder why people won't completely remove the lower receiver when cleaning except for field-stripping the crap out of the entire weapon, airsoft or real.

Because you really don't need to for simple maintenance. You can easily get to all the important bits inside by just popping the rear pin and opening the rifle.
