Well, to a degree it wasn't all their fault. It was said openly to the Germans that before 1942 at the earliest Italy wouldn't reach a sufficient level of preparation, yet this didn't stop them from declaring war in 1939; besides, the bald guy decided to enter the conflict in 1940 when France folded and the UK was seemingly on the ropes, which now we can see was a mistake, but at the moment the matter was more blurred.
Moreover, it's not like Italy's contribution to the Axis cause was exacty nil; the Regia Marina, although with a lackluster record in terms of major naval engagements (but not in terms of naval convoys to North Africa, despite Rommel's rather unfair complaints), contributed to the Royal Navy's inability to send major naval forces to the Far East, which it was able to do only in 1944 after Italy's armistice and the neutralization of most of the German capital ships. The lack of adequate naval cover in that theater was one of the major reasons (although not the only one) which enabled the Japanese to seize in a fast campaign territories rich in oil and raw resources, without which their war industry wouldn't have been able to keep going til 1945.

but, after all, that's just a stereotype: French has fought quite some war and so did the Italians. They even fought together in the Battle of the Piave in WW1! Can you believe that Rommel got lost on the mountains during the attack at the Piave and ended up in a totally wrong place? THAT Rommel! Come on that's hilarious. The same Rommel that said: "The German soldier has impressed the world, however the Italian soldier has impressed the German soldier." Well, He liked the Italian soldiers but he REALLY hated the Italians high officials for their incompetence.
Now that I think about it... the '900 was a pretty awful century. One war you're allied with your cousins from the other side of the alps then 20 years later you're in war with them and you're allied with the Germans, the ones who almost invaded your homes 2 decades before. Man that's... pretty fu**ed up. Knowing it is a thing but actually realize it makes you understand just how bad our grandfathers had it. I mean, the day after my grandfather got married he left my grandmother to fight in war and he came back TWO years later after fighting in Albania, Africa, after the ship he was on sunk and after he got captured by the British... and He had to live all of that when he was younger than me! I suddendly got really deep, i better go to sleep.

We Italians use Crucco/a as a joke sometimes, however it is actually WAY MORE offensive than just call someone by their nationality.

Eh? Since when were the french a liability? Unless you mean the vichy/legit government split between the forces ofc yes in that case they were a liability. If however you mean lolsurrendermonkeys then no, no they weren't. Only the government capitulated, the military fought all for 6.67 years of WWII both via the resistance and on the front lines. If you're going to call the French a liability for that then you might as well call the Poles (obvious), us in the UK (for Dunkirk and having to ditch most of our materiel) and the Americans (for arriving three years late and very, very nearly too late altogether in terms of DDs for bases and even then you still shafted us, 99 year rent free leases on our mid-atlantic and some mainland holdings and all you give us is a few clapped out WWI era DDs that were not even remotely useful /rant).

Roosevelt did expect the war will reach them sooner or later, since their economy will be affected if Germany continue their advance, and the Japanese threat just outside their colonies. Which is why they started increasing research and productions of weapons after France defeat.

No one ever asked America to 'clean up their mess' what they did ask for was material support until they could get up to wartime production levels. 3. Both France and the UK had larger and more advanced armies than Germany at the outbreak of WWII. The reason Germany steamrolled France is that they bypassed the Maginot Line via Belgium and the difference in tank tactics. Literally NO-ONE knew how to use tanks effectively because there had been no chances to test them operationally (including 'you' Mr American, you had 4,000 light tanks armed with nothing but .30cals as your primary armoured force. That is, after you reinstated said armoured force after deeming the pointless) so when blitzkrieg tactics were used against tanks dispersed among infantry divisions the whole thing fell apart. 4. I do not fault the Germans for WWII either, I fault the National Socialist German Workers Party for WWII. Then again if not for them it would have been Stalin albeit at later date. 5. Pearl Harbour did not drag you in, your many breaches of neutrality dragged you in. Otherwise it would have been a Pacific only war for the US. Actually we tested our tank tactics before we entered the war. It was how George S. Patton was promoted to the rank of general in time for the Africa Campaign.
