I'm not too confident with my translation, but I hope I get that part right.

Seems like it's been from before the war, and then like all fashion, went out of date and "rediscovered".
Personally I only remember it from Lady Diana's era.

What's so unusual about shoulder padding in suits? Seems pretty common atleast in finer, (particularly men's) clothing under the shoulder seam.

Edit: That being the barely noticable padding that just shapes the shoulder, not those ridiculously huge puffy pads from 80s women's clothing

I don't see why there aren't more jokes about this subject, considering that Yamato's use of the Type 91 Personal Air Defense System is canon.

In this case "バブル(の頃)" means the economic bubble in Japan.

The zealots deny reality of their Hotel being not as filling as they thought her to be.

To be honest, when I realised that Yamato's size is in fact smaller, I was quite pleased, because in my opinion, the size she's trying to hide underneath her pads fits her a lot more and just doesn't look ridiculous, unlike the way she looks with the pad.

Makes your Shoulders broad so you seem a little more intimidating.

Well, in the '80s, women's business fashion was trending to to 'Power Dressing', with the greater amount of women in white-collar work, many felt that they had to dress in a way that, essentially, minimised femininity and projected an image of power, viz. shoulder pads, hiding breasts, straight lines and whatnot. However, until the pantsuit became popular, it was usually paired with a conservative skirt; jewellery of all kinds was also in the look.

Shoulder pads in the current era (both for men and women), in 'standard' business suits anyway, are to complement the wearer's shoulder line, rather than replace it with a boxy look.

However, for a children's suit, it's more to give the suit shape, as children tend to have pretty 'weak' shoulders.

To be fair Yamato herself is rather well-endowed, just not humongous. Also, she's not exactly on the small side either.

I like how Yamato furiously denied it although Houshou was asking about an entirely different pad.

    I knew about it anyway.
Did you by any chance drop this pad, Ryuujou-chan?
    Eh!?
    EH? NO!
The hell're you makin' me say that fer?
Suits with shoulder pads were popular during the economic bubble era. Mid '80s to early '90s
In a pig's eye, I did! Y'all can see plain as day I ain't got none in!
    I don't know what you're talking about!
Don't just straight-cold blab it, Sis.
Yamato also used pads, I'm sure.
However, that does not seem to be one of hers.
    Yamato-san, are you wearing pads?
Did you use to wear suits?
