Well they are technically the same being.

Giegue is a mistranslation of Giygas, which is a mistranslation of Gyiyg. An interesting Russian doll scenario.

Comparing Mewtwo's similarities to giygas, I wonder if Mewtwo would turn out the same way. Think about it.

So this is what Giygas looked like in Mother (EarthBound Zero) before the incident that caused it to look the way it does in EarthBound (Mother 2). It's hard to recognize it from its 8-bit sprite, or its alternate name. I myself thought that Geigue was Giygas's relative or something.

It's just a different romanization. I wish people got over it already.

THAT Gyiyg is supposed to be Gyiyg pre-natal, or at least, pre-awakening, since:
A) You go back in time to kill it when it is weaker than it is in the present.
B) You encounter it in the Cave of the Past, located in the Lost Underworld, presumably then the Lost Underworld was just the surface of the planet (400 million years ago or some shite).
C) It is a mass of nothing and everything, despite being presumably just an unborn alien of which there are probably millions that look just like him, as there are millions and billions of humans.

What confuses me is that Gyiyg's first contact was supposed to be in 1909 or 1899 or something, when Ninten's grandparents found it (I like to assume Mother 1 takes place in the 50s, but that's neither here nor there), and yet, in Mother 2 which takes place arguably three generations later(grandparents, parents, Ninten and co.), Gyiyg "flees" or something into the past at one point to recuperate and take over Earth again in Mother 2, though he makes it appear, and they kind of imply in Earthbound at least, that he's been there all along in the Lost Underworld since before the evolution of humans...

Whatever. It could be a pre-destined thing, where one "World Line", to speak in Steins;Gatenese, Gyiyg always was in the Lost Underworld/prehistoric Earth, dormant and effecting the environment subtly through Mother 1 and until Mother 2, and then, he would be born on his homeworld, come to Earth and attack it in Mother 1 as THIS Gyiyg featured here.
