I feel like I asked this before, but do they have actual ships in the Kancolle universe? I know the game and anime are its own thing, but I don't recall seeing any actual ships in the anime.
The background DDG-173 is the JMSDF Kongou-class destroyer, Kongou.
Added the tag a few minutes ago after making sure we didn't have a specific one for it. The way personifications and actual ships go under the _(JMSDF) character tags is kinda weird.

It was implied to take place in modern day time and modern weapons is not effective against Abyssal. So probably those were kept away since it won't work anyway. Though in the canceled official Kongou manga, there is a modern passenger boat. No warship though.
