The flags on the left, was it true pilots use to "stamp" enemy planes shot down during the war? I remember seeing things like that on old cartoons.

Very true - Pilots of all nationalities adorned their planes with kill marks, bomb marks, nose art, names, pictures of their waifu...

Yeah. The IJN does that too, for example that Legendary Zero Fighter stamp his kill marks with Cherry Blossoms.

remember, the Floating Fortress and Escort Fortress are the spherical ships that appeared with the newer abyssals like Hoppo, while the Enemy Aircraft has the cannons and torpedoes sticking under them, "eyes" on the top and only have one row of teeth under their body and are triangular rather than a sphere. Think of the original abyssal airships that were used by Wo in the first years

This is the Enemy Airship post #2068678
and this is a Fortress post #2015287 and post #1605920

yeah, as we don't have a tag for that one in particular we use the frotress

    EDIT:

Actually, how do we go about making a tag for this unit? Should we use abyssal_cat_fighter or some other version?

But they aren't fortress. And the enemy aircraft wiki page did include the takoyaki.
