Warm beer is sacrilege here in the states, but I hear in Europe it is the go-to. Many brewers and alcohol proficients state that the best serving temperature for savoring beer is on the warm side, but you'll never hear that on this side of the earth.

    Meanwhile, warm sake in Japan.
Heard that it makes the drink more fragrant too.
Maybe because the alcohol and aromatic component vapourized and become easier to inhale than when they are trapped in the liquid.
    *shrugs*

BTW, because spices, have to be imported from tropical countries, is this a creation of more modern time ?

I imagine so. I don't think the brits started introducing orange peel and other bits and bobs in their tea until after they took over parts of India.

It stands to reason that spices weren't too common in Germany until recently. Turn the century 19th or 20th?

    Try it.
But I have never heard that Glühwein translates into "hot wine".
My translation device gives me "mulled wine".
And Glükriek is misspelled. It should be Glühkriek (with an h).

People who are weak against alcohol should beware too
    How to make Gluhwein
Turn off the fire, add sugar to taste, and done. (adjust the amount of sugar and lemon according to the taste of the wine)
Heat wine, orange, lemon and spices in small pan.
    Lecker! Delicious
Drunk during Christmas or when people have a cold!
Stir slowly with cinnamon stick, and when it starts to foam then it's done
    Gluhwein
Apparently in Germany, it's okay to drink wine and beer at age 16...
Switch to small fire just before boiling and warm it for 10 minutes
Some of the alcohol is lost but both still have alcohol in them, so drink within reason!
    - Wine (red or white is fine. use the kind with less acidity) 200ml - Orange, lemon, round cut. - Sugar 1tbsp - Spice (cinnamon stick, clove, etc.)
    Germany's warm drinks for Winter
Add sugar to black beer and heat it in microwave oven for one minute
    How to make Glukriek
    Glukriek
    - Black Beer 185 ml (Half of 1 can) - Sugar 1 teaspoon (honey is okay too) - Cinnamon stick
    Mulled Wine
Hot Beer (Correct german spelling: Glühkriek)
Mix it up and it becomes foamy in an instant!
If you're an underage, do try it when you're an adult
A hot cocktail with a potent yet gentle taste. Add spice to warm up your body!!
A preferable slightly bitter taste that is a bit similar to coffee.
