Oh! My aircon does have a spare remote. Admittedly, all it can do is on/off, mode and timer (the main remote is for everything else), but still.

Must be dependant on the company/locale, then.
Air conditioners of any kind doesn't come with a spare remote control around these parts. Not that I know of, anyway.
