    It's going to be spring very soon, so I drew up this idea that just popped into my head.

    Just watch as Iowa or whatever USN shipgirls get introduced start demanding central heating and actual insulation int he damned walls instead of rice paper screens... by "accidentally" burning half the base down and then persuading them that flammable materials should not be the ENTIRE STRUCTURE for the dorms and common rooms.

    I reckon the Admiralty would ask them to help out with some donations first then. Especially if they did burn down the house, intentionally or not =3

    Oh Iowa is smarter than that. Get the other side to do it, such as talking about this event within hearing range of the Abyssals while on sortie and complaining how vulnerable the base buildings are:

    Because even a concrete bunker has better heat retention than most Japanese houses...

    BTW: AS for why getting the other side to do it is a good idea for motivation... well, I got the brilliant idea from the sheer brilliance of putting eight battleships neatly lined up as bait (double column with an island on one side means you are guaranteed to concentrate enemy torpedo bombers in one zone and minimize the number of non-battleships hit, and concentrate dive bombers on the battleships instead of on dock facilities or other vessels), as well as having the carriers "conveniently" out of harbour at the time....
    Roosevelt knew full well that they'd have to smack Japan down before it could secure China (see Red Alert 3 for the general idea of the sort of madness that would ensue if the Japanese were emboldened by taking down China, though the technologies there are fictional), and since the Japanese were about to join the war on the Axis side and were likely very nervous about the Philippines straddling their supply lines, concentrating the US Pacific Fleet in one area which was within striking range of a carrier raid like the British had done at Taranto a few years ago would surely be able to prompt the Japanese to kick the bucket of US public opinion and allow an intervention which, now that the Allied effort in Eurasia was stuck in only the British Isles and North Africa, would allow the US to take the position of dominant world power for the foreseeable future, while the Germans with either badly exhaust the Soviet Union or manage to grind it down while being so weakened that an assault on continental Europe would then succeed.

    It is very obvious if you paid attention to the details of history that while the US did not MAKE the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, they certainly expected it (they would have been foolish not to given their own war games with carriers and Taranto) and did what they could to create the conditions needed.
