That's why humans all grow up and age at about the same rate.

Youkai and humans aren't any different on the genetic level.

For example, human souls are...

They're like the juice in this glass.

Or should I say, magical beings and oni and such are all corporeally the same.

The juice can only preserve its shape within a vessel.

Where they differ is inside. In other words, the structure of their souls, their spiritual nature.

Conversely...

In other words, the controlling power of our souls is greater than that of our bodies' control programs.

Wings and tails and such are semi- corporeal items composed of spiritual matter, by the way.

For humans, growing up and aging can only be done in accordance with the basic programs their bodies are furnished with from the start.

In contrast, our spirits can change or augment the form, properties, physical abilities and so on of our vessels to match our individual spiritual natures.
