Just because something has noodles/rice or chunks of veggies in it doesn't mean it's healthy, just like how say a Chipotle Burrtio is way worse for you then say a Big Mac. Yeah sure it has rice and beans and a salsa in it... but if you eat the whole thing it's still over a thousand fucking calories with tons of fat.

Gyuudon is just meat, rice, noodles (cause you know need more carbs in there), and sometimes eggs added to boot. There's really no reason it would be much better for you then a burger with a fried egg busted over it from what I can tell.

At least Gyuudon ain't have the tons of sugar and fat and sugar you eat at McDonald's and other western junk food chains. Compared to ours this "junk food" is way more healthy, specially if you have an active life and move around.

No sugar... in a dish with mirin (up to 25% sugar by weight) and with many recipes calling for browning the meat with straight sugar if lacking that? Think again, there's a ton of sugar in the sauce used to flavor it and plenty of fat too due to the meat and and egg along with any oils used as well. A quick check shows an average caloric content of about 600-800 for one serving (mostly depending on what size you consider a standard serving) with equivalent levels of sodium, fat, and sugar to a fast food burger.

The low end of that would make it marginally worse then a Big Mac the high end notably so. Again just cause something has some rice and few veggies tossed in that doesn't make it healthy in the slightest.

It's not the burger that kills you with something like McDonalds, though, it's the fries and likely also the soda. A 500 or 600 calorie meal isn't crazy. (Not diet food by any stretch, but it's reasonable if you don't eat unhealthy snacks.)

Beef alone isn't unhealthy. (If you look at the nutrition information on, say, beef jerky, it's practically no calories at all...) What kills you is the rice, noodles, and sugar. (Or in other words, carbs, carbs, and carbs.) In the case of a burger, the bun has more calories than the filling.

Even if you talk about burritos, looking at Moe's nutrition menu, you start a burrito with 300 calories just for the tortilla. Most of the fillings, meat included are about 100-150 calories apiece. There's no significant difference between getting tofu, steak, and chicken, for that matter, and the ground beef is actually lower in calories.

Health is relative. In ECW training some get issued sticks of butter to eat straight or melt into their rations. Fats, sugars, and salt are by no means unhealthy as is. Too much of anything is unhealthy. Even vegetables are unhealthy if your diet is too high in it. I find food choice if in moderate balance really doesn't make much if any difference in a person's health. What it all really comes down to is portion size and activity.

Simple: overeating is unhealthy. Eating a lot more than your daily needs or more than you can burn (athletes) is unhealthy.

Exactly! What goes in must come out, or it builds up.

    Sure is.
Ufufu, eating a gyuudon in secret is certainly a delicious thing, isn't it, Commander?
Going on about how 'It's bad for your health'...
But it's just junk... It's junk food, isn't it!!
Oh my, we've been found out!
Asashio's quite harsh when it comes to junk food, yeah?
HEY! You're eating junk food again!!
    It's just too much.
D-Don't look at us with those eyes...
I mean, certainly, Sukiya gyuudons have plenty of things like onions, grated radish or okra as toppings, and you can enhance the meal with a side salad and whatnot,
And furthermore, in place of the rice you can use tofu instead and make a healthy light gyuudon...
What trouble being an honor student must be...
