Lemme guess. Kiyoshimo is the hardest working DD of the bunch because she want to become a Battleship?

Edit: Oh wait, it's Kimura's Fleet.

You think we only study how to fight in military school ? Think again.

And then list up the curriculum in naval academy.

Trig's probably the most important subject for a shipgirl.

To quote a certain flat-chested Female Knight:

(paraphrased) "These knowledge aren't stuff meant for regular swordsmen - they are knowledge for those who will be standing alongside the King. They are knowledge that will keep you alive on the battlefield and command armies for the king."

    Kiyoshimo sang:

I am the very model of a modern dreadnought battleship
My armor is the equal of a dozen tin-can cattle ships
I know the admirals of yore and quote the fights historical
    From Tsushima to Leyte Gulf in order categorical;
I'm very well-acquainted too with matters mathematical
I understand equations both the simple and quadratical
About the latest gunlaying I'm teeming with a lot of news
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse

I'm very good at integral and differential calculus
(You have to be to hit your foe at ranges this miraculous)
In short, in all things naval and/or depending on seamanship
I am the very model of a modern dreadnought battleship.

Nope, calculus. Up until very recently all artillery was aimed by doing the calculus manually. Now, we usually have fire-control computers do all the hard work for us.

Aim to be an elite battleship!
There's first and second foreign languages, the Chinese classics, history, geography, psychology, logic, ethics, an overview of philosophy, etc...
    Hyperbolic [functions]
But in reality, our recruiting standards focus not on math or science in particular but on holistic admissions. A formal education is not necessary for the self-taught. In other words, an elite school concerned with real ability. If you want to join the best, study! Study!
For the sciences, biology, chemistry, and mechanics.
For math, there's algebra, calculus, probability theory, trigonometry, and geometry.
The top 10 percent of admitted students come from the top of their classes at famous junior highs. The top 30 from the first 3; the top 60 from the first 5; and the top 80 from the first 10.
We can't teach future line officers just military science at the Naval Academy! In fact, they must also go through a fair amount of general education.
