Though I didn't serve in any military, but disobeying your commanding officer like what Kashima did can cause a dishonorable discharge which what the admiral probably did out of revenge.
Also Kashima living on her savings like a ordinary human being could be a heart-breaking but at the same time a happy life if she wants to choose that life.

Just checked Wangphing's Facebook, while this story is still not finished, he's starting a new one featuring Ellen Baker. If it goes as this one, we'll get an overdose of feels.
