Those big red and blue pillars in panel two remind of the warp cores from Star Trek. I've always wondered how they got giant blue lava lamp effect with the warp core on Voyager.

Anyway, the Pokemon Zubat was probably named for the live-action hero, as well as the pun on "bat". The phrase zubatto by itself means "bluntly", "to the point", or "right on target".

I dunno, I don't think those two are that bad. Zubats are actually pretty pathetic and, if you catch them, you can turn them into the super fast Crobats. Geodudes has a lot of weaknesses in a time before Sturdy becomes actually useful. Free HP if you use Absorb.

Their evolutions, Medicham, and Machoke, on the other hand. By the gods, they are the nightmares of Mt. Coronet and Sinnoh's Victory Road.

Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn. The world's largest wholly-elevated train terminal, 4 island platforms serving 4 lines on 8 tracks, literally just across the street from the Nathan's hot dog stand in Coney Island.

Naw man, you had to be a kid playing Red/Blue to truly appreciate how fucking annoying they were.

Going through Mt.Moon was a nightmare for beginners. And when you get to rock tunnel and braved it without Flash...

For the record, my very first game in Red had me go through Dark Cave without HM01. I still have no idea how I managed to do that and still reach Lavender Town in one piece.
