Actually from what I read of this so far only Hibiki is the only non-trustworthy one. Suzuya stayed to allow Sendai to launch her attack. Kaga attacks on her own and uses tactics to trick Nagato. I-168 warned the others about Sendai being up and on the prowl. Kongo is making sure little mama doesn't get taken out.

Hibiki is the only backstabber so far. Everyone else are doing this fair and square (even the tragic death of the fastest duo and Shoukaku's first blood).

The whole idea of "bonus destribution via battle royale" is stupid. The absolute last thing you need during actual war is infighting. USA, for example, wasted enourmous amount of resourses because of it. Hell, decade ago three separate branches of US armed forces got hostages killed because they were competing instead of cooperating. And that's rivalry up high. On ground level, if you can't trust your comrades not to backstab you at moment's notice, the unit will disentegrate.

Spoiler alert: when he was fighting the abyssals hand-to-hand, a little bit of their corruption seeped into his brain and planted the idea.
At the comic's end, Reality Ensues and the Abyssals win the war. Either that or he loses his job and another admiral and fleet takes over.

That being said, I CALL BULL**** that Shiranui would lose to Sendai! We all know that Shiranui is the most blood thirsty ship on the team and would win a straight up duel with Sendai. ._.
The worst part is that Hibiki with Shiranui stood better chances but Hibiki chose the worst decision she could make. There will be Hell to pay after this is over.
In the army even if you cheat/swine all your comrade, in actual combat they will still trust you the same.
I never heard, seen or even think that my comrade or anyone in my unit will betray me even if they pull this shit on me in mock-team-combat. And I think my comrade will also agree.
