French have been more realistic and got their shit together. Deschamps must have been thinking that a team that have outed England is not one to be taken lightly. However, he must have been frustrated at his guys slacking off on defense and getting complacent, as demonstrated by the two goals by Iceland.

Well, the defense is a huge problem with this french team. They get so many goals against them lately and if not, Lloris is there, but they are still struggling. I highly doubt that they will get into the finals, since France plays more suited for german play; they like to attack, which allows to take pressire on the France defense if they play against a good team. I think it'll be a 2:0 for Germany :3.
Iceland do their best, and arriving to quarters is quite an achievement (since they eliminate England). But from the match between Germany - France the champion of the EuroCup will be predicted, Gales and Portugal are strong but still not at Germany or France level.
Still I want to see France in the Friendly Match against the Conmebol representative, and Confederations Cup.
And France won. Motherfucking Griezmann is the Jesus of Les Bleus. That penalty shot decision appeared suspicious at first until the replay showed the German guy punching the ball, unwillingly or not, for some reason.

I don't know what he was thinking. Nearly the same situation with the penalty for Italy: Just stupid. And absolutely unneeded. France didn't really stand a chance before this handball. It's just stupid and the finals don't deserve this stupidity. Well, now I hope that France will win this thing. They can do it and Portugal has some players that aren't that nice, to say it nicely^^.

@ The handball, chance is that he didn't think about the handball. A reflex when you are in defense is to spread your body wide enough to stop strikers from hitting the ball. It's stupid but human. There are also some who would do it willingly, gaming on the possibility that the shooter wont score the penalty shot, like how it infamously happened in 2010, during Ghana vs Uruguay.
@ Les Bleus, I want them to win. France need a happy story with a happy end for a change, after all the crap that happened in 2015 (Charlie Hebdo and the terrorist attacks of November) and this year (cops killed by a guy who swore allegiance to ISIS).

Nope. The hands have nothing to do search in this heights. That not really human when the arms are above the head, especially when I consider that they are professionals. And your comparison with Ghana/Uruguay isn't that good either since it was the only way to prevent the goal. And it worked. Here in this case....not really. And in the Italy match was it also complete unnessecary.
With your second paragraph, I completely agree with you. This country is in such a state that it is sad (maybe not the right word here). But when I'm together with French people, it's nearly always kinda unsettling...I really hope that they will win and that they brighren up.
And it's not over in 90 minutes. Am I the only one who thinks that this match is extremely boring? Yes, the match heated up in the last 5 minutes, but what was before that? The "highlight" was that Ronaldo was switched out :/. And that is incredeibly sad for him. I really wished that he could play the whole game for his team and what did he get? A rampaging Payet who didn't even get a yellow card...

At least, a yellow card. Was a straight red for me, he didn't even Try to go for the ball, literally aimed for Cristiano's planted leg. Dirty, nothing else to say about it. Not seeing Ronaldo put a damper on the game for sure, but, even so...

And the winner is PORTUGAL.
Nice, nice.
Yes, and rightfully so. Not just for poetic justice, but for the fact that Cristiano's leaving must've put France in a false sense of security; they just stop attacking. They'd come in bits and pieces, but that was it; no aggression. Portugal did what they've done all tournament, defend, defend, defend, then try to break on a counter or capitalize on the mistake, coming thru on the latter. Well deserved, in my opinion. My only problem with Portugal is; Joan Mario on while you have a true #9 in Eder (Ader?) on the bench? ...Why??? But, that's moot, now.
Not the most alluring game, but I've no problem with that. Simply means defenses are doing their job of being disruptive and it makes a goal scored all the sweeter. That said, they really should consider bringing back the Golden Goal in the upcoming year. Can't have squads just defending for another 30 minutes with hardly any real offensive notions :\ Then again... they may just defend even heavier with NO offensive notions. It's a tough go, either way, I suppose.
Well, our president's Wife (sorry, previous president's wife) once made a statement after a football match some years back.
"Ísland er bestasta land í heimi!"
Which means in English: "Iceland is the bestest country in the world!"
Which then came kind of meme here and eventually turned into: "Iceland is Bestest! Iceland is Strongest!" Something which is sometimes jokingly said/used as a cheer when we are doing good in some sport/music/literature/etc.
A kind of a joke due to our tendency to appear a bit arrogant from outsider's perspective (especially when it comes to sports). Though in reality our general behavior is mainly due to our culture and location. We are a tiny country with tiny population out in the middle of nowhere. The only way we can make ourselves noticed is by standing out in some fashion. There are no secret Viking genes, just passion. The reason why we have so many strongmen is because those strongmen parents supported their passion and generally didn't try to stop them from doing something they wanted to do. That is simply it, passion and support.
Additionally, most sports here don't pay or pay their athletes much (basketball being exception for some reason) so you need to have unparalleled passion for the sport if you want to do good in the sport you pick. Especially if you want to become a paid professional in other countries.
Edit. Makes the Cirno image even more fitting eh? :3 Edit 2. Oh and I forgot to mention. What she said in Icelandic was grammatically incorrect (which is why I translated it in that manner). Probably one of the main reasons why it became so popular.
