I think this is a Koromodako - 衣蛸 (lit. "Cloth Octopus"). This is a youkai that have apperance just like a small octopus, but they can instantly grow to many times their original size – large enough to engulf fish, fishermen, or EVEN AN ENTIRE SHIP. Stretching their arms and body out wide, they resemble an enormous piece of cloth, which explain its name.

Either that or it more leans towards older interpretations of angels, whose descriptions make them sound pretty eldritch. Then again, the Angels from Evangelion are damn creepy as well, so it could really be either.

I might be wrong, but I've heard the two words are meant to distinguish between what the Japanese call celestial beings(aka angels) - and straight up Biblical angels.
The text seems to come from the Sanbutsuge, which itself is a portion of the Infinite Life Sutra, though this bears a number of typos and missing characters.
