It would be definitely nice to see "Samidere" getting some more official appreciation (be it seasonal cgs, art revamp, kai ni... whatever...something) and more considering that she's a starter ship (and the only non special destroyer at that), by the way is her artist still active by any chance?
the last time there's any 'official art' for them it was Kujou Ichiso who drew Suzukaze and Samidare for a magazine. i don't even know what is their original artist doing right now.

If the devs wont even consider giving them new CG art what makes you think that they'll even consider giving them kai-2? Hell, Kancolle would be close down before that would happen.
Besides, even if they get Kai-2 it'll be Kujou who would be doing it and, from all his recent work, both Sami and Suzu would just turn into Yuudachi/Shigure respectively with blue hair. Hell you wouldn't even be able to tell them apart. It's sad because I liked Kujou and had wanted him to adopt the two at first but seeing him pulling a Shibafu almost makes me wish that Sami and Suzu would stay forgotten just so he wouldn't get them, or at least not until he moves away from his samefacing style.
I want Sami and Suzu to finally get some love but not at the expense of them becoming someone else because they're popular.

I was one of the people rooting for their Kai-2 until I read the news that Taneda Risa is taking a break. I wouldn't want a Kai-2 at the cost of seiyuu replacement. if that happens, it would be FGO all over again for me. I'd rather the devs wait until she's ready to voice new lines.

That was his old one and I knew about that. We have no guarantee that Kujou won't just decide to copy and paste Yuudachi/Shigure's face on to their body or just recolor their hair blue like all his new works. I had hope that Kujou won't just stop like all the other artist and just settle for doing the same faces over and over without much effort into it. It makes me sad to see an artist just don't care anymore once they get popular and get trapped in that phase where somehow all they can do is the same damn face and expression.

Now, now, no need to be that negative.
Even if they don't have a Kai-2, they can at least hope for a new art for their Kai, just like the 7thDesDiv or even their big sister Shiratsuyu, Murasame and Harusame.
Like this, we don't change the Seiyuu (which I didn't know for her illness), and then give them a new CG art.

at the very least, he's no Shibafu. at least his poses are still distinct across his shiratsuyus (tbh, i don't notice any samefaces) and both damaged and non-damaged arts have different poses. that is good enough for me.
maybe it's just his style, though? i looked through his old arts (and his current FGO artbook) and they all seem to have relatively similar face types (sometimes expressions too).
