Haven't tasted it yet, but knowing that you can't just casually eat it like most foods is good to know.
Mochi isn't that dangerous. Like most foods, take small bites and don't get greedy or it'll go down the wrong chute. It's just the stickiness of mochi that makes it problematic to extract.
On another note, I'd like a taste of what genuine new year's mochi really is.

Speaking of roguelikes, a food that can randomly kill you would be wonderfully in theme for Nethack. Though since death by mochi comes from eating too fast, it should probably be more likely to kill you the hungrier you are.
mochi in my country are usually cut in very small bitesize with crushed sweet peanut filling. i dont know eating mochi can be so dangerous as blocking the respiratory pipe
