Eh, in areas away from most civilization, fresh snow doesn't do much.

Yup. Boiling it kills most bacteria and viruses. Also eating snow is not calorie efficient since you waste energy on dissolving the snow on your stomach (energy you would otherwise be using for making your body work correctly)
