    Added historical event tag. It must be very frustrating to be a french kanmusu when you know that their historical counterparts were built to fight a war most of them never did because their government gave up.

    Reading the casualties list gave me goosebumps. You need to bear a heavy responsibility to scuttle 77 vessels without a fight.

    Some of the surviving sailors who were interviewed later wanted to fight, so that decision pissed them off. Of course, there are those who are relunctant because they were afraid of what the SS would do to their families who stayed home.

    November 27, 1942
    The German army advanced on the naval base at Toulon, planning to seize the French fleet.
    The flagship, battleship Strasbourg, gave the signal by flare.
    With their chances of escape dashed, the French fleet resisted.
    3 Battleships 4 Heavy Cruisers 3 Light Cruisers 32 Destroyers 16 Submarines 1 Seaplane Tender 18 smaller vessels for a total of 77 ships scuttled at once. This incident is called the Tragedy at Toulon.
