Is the concept of "osore" close enough to anxiety ? Had a vague feeling about what it refers to, but never know the best translation for it.
A rather difficult feeling. Like gods or youkai are feared yet respected and needed, hated yet envied. There's a feeling of powerlessness when facing it.
To be honest, that's the third definition that comes up after "fear" and "horror", and "fear leads to horror" sounded pretty stupid, so... I'm certainly not an authority on the issue, but I thought anxiety does an alright job covering both fear and hate in this case.

You could probably go with something like "antipathy", which is a difference in degree more than kind. (Sort of like saying, "anger leads to loathing.")

I know it might be a tad bit late by now, but a possible translation could be "Resignation"; you need them but don't want them, so you resign yourself to it.
Though, to be fair, considering the context, "Anxiety" might be a better fit.
For us, without fearing the wind, without hating the wind...Without respecting it, without looking up to it, without loving it either...They both lead to anxiety. That's why it didn't work out.But that's for humanity.Fear, hate...Anxiety gives rise to gods and youkai. We are different. The wiiiiiind! We're the side that basks in anxiety.
