I think her seiyuu was trying to effect a more gruff, battle-hardened Nagato: she's a power-house, and she knows it.
That's just the thing though. Old nagato didn't need to show off. And I just generally hate the gruff voice thing anyway. She was so feminine while still being athletic before.

I was downvoting things that I knew were untrue; like for example when you said that the voice change occurred from the kai update and not the anime -"Her new Kai-Ni lines. It's mostly the tenor of her voice has dropped a few steps." Unless you meant something else? I've also only got like one of your comments downvoted
