Have a long day talking to Lenin and Marx about that, Gangut. The heart is there... but... err... the way it got implemented was a giant out.

Um... Spirytus Rektyfikowany is Polish spirit, and Poland is one of the most damaged by Soviets countries. To this day most Poles despise communism and by extension Russians and Russian satellite citizens like Ukrainians.

A nation where everyone is equal is impossible. It's basically a utopia.
How can people understand each other when it's clear that we can't---laws are made and implemented precisely BECAUSE humans CANNOT understand each other. Wars happen for the same reason.

Yet Romantic tosh like the American Constitution and the French Declaration of the Rights of Man is still popular for a reason: those maps never matched the terrain, but people suck in the flattery that all men are equal and together embody sovereignty ( although not one in a million creates laws or influences policy ) simply because people die without ideals. Even silly ones.

The Soviets were kind of average, actually.

Communism is a "perfect" idea on paper.
But that's precisely why it cannot exist with how the world operates right now.

    -P.S.
I really want to give sobbing Gangut a hug right now.

Socialism, you mean. Communism itself has lots of places to fix. That's why they were striving for socialism. But I agree that the later generation got it wrong and it was kind of impossible from the get go.

Well, shit. A piece of doujinshi had us talking about politics. KanColle is dangerous.

Own interpretation, but I think it's not about making everyone equal (gun succeeded in doing that?).

It's about being able to be motivated to find a way so everyone can reach the enlightenment together, leaving no one behind.

Rather than about tearing your way to the highest height and "become inspiration" for others, to top over that, under assumption of limitless potential of individuals.

France under the Ancien Regime was pretty much a shithole for anybody who were not nobility or clergymen. Wanted to climb higher in the social ladder? Too bad you are not Sir, Baronm Count of something, hah! Ministers proposed reforms to adress this issue (even one proposing that nobles could open business to earn money, and save the kingdom's treasury as a result), but noooo the Clergy and Nobility dug in their heels and refused because they didnt want to lose their privileges. This is why those ministers were eventually fired. And Revolution eventually came to be.

Romantic? But a product of people's wishes at the time.

Still better and much more applicable than what the Soviets tried to pass off as a good idea, so "tosh" would much more accurately be applied to that. And no, they were definitely below "average". Every big thing made of people --nations, kingdoms, etc.-- fucks up, but some definitely fuck up more than others. Much more.

Oh the heart was not there. Ask the Kronstadt Sailors about how much heart Lenin had for keeping his promises to the people. How they were at the head of the Revolution, were declared heroes, were the go to people for dealing with disputes and then when they had the temerity to try and make Lenin keep his promises to the people after seeing the Bolsheviks becoming the new nobility he declared them counter revolutionaries and had all the ones who didn't escape to Finland killed.

It didn't change that much, even during the Soviet Union days.
Soviet Union, or to be more precise, Russia always had a lot of squibbles with its neighbor through out history.
Treating them badly and with hate is very much normal to said neighbors.
Ukraine and Poland are just a small part. Though ome of their reasonings sounds like they didn't actually learn their own history to me.

I think they learned enough to realize Russia, or specifically Moscow, will not allow a power structure that is not adherent to them.

    Apparently, they didn't.
For the last few days, I have heard them going from: "not too interested in joining NATO anymore because of their treatment to Ukraine" to: "urges that NATO accept their application to be a member" to: "considering a neutral stance, with no foreign military base".
Basically, they are still playing with the idea to my eyes.

And if they learned, they'd know better that no great power would want something that can threaten them so close to their own neck.
Not Germany back in WW2, not America back in the 60s and surely not Russia right now.
Yet, the application is made. It's like they didn't do enough research on history.

I mean Putin has made it clear his goal was to replace the leadership in Ukraine by force and invaded the country. He made statements indicating that more or less the Soviet Union gave up territory that belongs to Russia, so the logical deduction is that he's not interested in just Ukraine. Poland doesn't want to be under the Russian sphere of influence, and neither does Ukraine. Ukraine is doing what they can to get assurances from both powers they can have an arrangement where they remain sovereign. Russia's direct military involvement in Donbas and Crimea since 2014 isn't a secret.

Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal in the 90s for assurances they will remain independent and saw that violated in 2014, come 2022 they get invaded on a much larger scale and subjected to some pretty brutal bombardment. On top of that, the Russian military's conventional forces are both horribly mismanaged and now largely defunct without the ability of Russia to really replace those losses. Ukraine is getting near infinite material support in both humanitarian aid and military equipment, so any losses they take on the defense are mitigated.

Russia already forcibly took over much of Eastern Europe after world war 2, and in world war 2 they worked with Germany to divide up the other major power, Poland. If I were Ukraine, I wouldn't settle for less than Russia leaving Ukraine entirely, including the western region, and indicating that Ukraine will be in charge of their own decisions regarding geopolitics.

There are many things I want to pick with your statement.
But for now, I just want to pick at these things.

Now, talking about how Ukraine is getting near infinite material support.
I would like to say, a Ukrainian was pissed off enough about it to talk like this.
    https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=657453722175537

Then, Russia worked together with Germany to devide the major powers in WW2.
Man, I keep hearing this. But seems you people bought Hitler too high thinking he is capable of working with communists.
Or you didn't care what he himself say, or write. Mein Kampf was pretty clear on his intention for the communists, if you need references.

I don't want to start a debate here.
And I have been trying to stay out of stuff related to Russia/Soviet Union for a while since I know a lot of you would not like my view.
But at least, please, do some more research into history.
Don't be like like Zelensky, asking for help but hinting he wants genocide enacted on his people.
Or Biden talking about how Putin is bringing Russia back to 19th century not knowing how much land Russia had back then.

The historicity of Russia invading Poland and the massacres they committed there isn't really a matter of debate, if you want to indulge alternate history feel free to go on but don't pretend its me "not liking your view" when you are willfully arguing against facts.

The borschtbotes were probably Ido's favorite ships to write for, and he had at least one punchline about Tashkent fantasizing about conquering more territory for "Mother Russia".

Those jokes have aged like mayonnaise.
