Royal excess at its finest. Fit for a czarina.

Not approved of by party officials.

Well Admiral, you got a veteran noble as part of your battleship force so its not surprising bootloads of funds may be occasionally sent to the base she's staying, double that amount since its reported that one of her colleagues stationed in the UK is being reassigned to this base.

I lost it at niconico tag "Isuzu (actual)".
(Hint: 五十鈴 = Isuzu, 五十 = 50, 鈴 = bell. Those who watched Amagi Brilliant Park would probably know)

By the way, where does the name "Ark Royal" come from?

Ark Royal (the WWII ship that was the first carrier to have fully-integrated flight decks and hangars, rather than bolt-ons); it's named after the 16th Century ship Ark Royal, which started construction as just Ark, became Ark Raleigh (as Sir Walter Raleigh was the owner), and then to Ark Royal after the crown bought it.

Paracite already covered the history of the name, but... not really.

Warspite is given the royal treatment because she's a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship (and battleships in general were named after royalty). Ark Royal, meanwhile, was named after another ship merely owned by the English state. (Plus carriers generally had a cruiser-style naming scheme based upon attributes in general, like "Illustrious" and "Formidable"...)

If we're going by names, you might actually expect Ark Royal to be something more like a royal maid or butler (if ikemen).

I encountered this when I visited Tokyo Tower a few years ago. Under the awning at one of the entrances were about 100 metal wind chimes. It was a windy day, so there was quite a cacophony.

But having those go off in an asynchronous manner all the time seems pretty hellish.

She doesn't know when she's beaten; she doesn't know when she's winning either. She has no sort of sensory apparatus known to man.

Both those names were all battleships before the carriers though. <.<
First to second Illustrious were 74-gun third rates, first Formidable was an 100% Frog 80-gun second rate captured at Quiberon (they renamed her HMS Ham <.< >.>), and the following two were both heavy second rates. Both names spent a period as pre-dreadnoughts immediately before being assigned to fleet carriers.

If any ship has the right to call her a proper Royal ship it'd be HMS Royal Sovereign. With the exception of one royal yacht in the service of Mad King George that we shan't ever mention again, she were all 100+ gun first rates before the pre-dreadnought age.

HMS Royal Sovereign also became a communist ship for a time during the war...as a lend lease battleship for the Soviet side of the Artic convoy route. Arkhangelsk

Warspite: *Gasp* You've become a communist! You betrayed our country!

Royal Sovereign lived quite a depressing career. She's a battleship, but she never saw battle because of her slow speed. Because of it she was seen as a burden. So her life was nothing but escorting duties until she was scrapped.

I should add that she was present at the Battle of Calabria, but she's too far behind because of her slow speed. As a result, Warspite herself dealt with the Italian battleships. In the end she was called "a constant source of anxiety".

So I guess she would be depressed about her failure to fulfill her duty as a battleship....but not Tenryuu.

So that's where Oda Eiichirou got the name "Rayleigh" from...

She's not unlucky. She's just slow because she's one of the oldest battleships (HMS Royal Sovereign was launched in 1915). In the Battle of Calabria, because she was only able to sail at 19 knots at that time she lagged behind and wasn't able to join in the battle with Warspite who dealt with the Italian BBs Guilio Cesare and Conte di Cavour.

Basically: "Lady Warspite, I'll protect you this time" or something like that.

Royal Sovereign and Vanguard will probably get along.(this here a great idea for an angst filled fanfic.)
