There's a far more efficient literal 'nuke' they could always use against any machinery with internal circuitry: directed EMP blast.. Disables anything that has current running inside within one second: they could always use Spidey's web to fish'em up when they drops like flies, can be built with nothing else but cables and some capacitors. Shielding? Fire a bullet or two, you can jam a screwdriver or anything ferrous inside and there's that.
