I think I got the translation wrong. The "merciless one" in the last bubble was probably Reiji himself, not Ruriko. Because if that were the case a lot of pixiv comments would be mentioning the unexpected character development.
Anyone who can read Japanese, please do check it.

Having trouble making sense of this conversation from the current translation. It doesn't flow very well at all. I don't know enough to be able to tell if that's a problem with the original wording or just how it's been translated.
