  • Ark Royal's Thanksgiving

A little too scary there. Should be at least for the end of the month instead.

"No really, I make a mean turkey bacon omelette. It's really good with a bit of cheddar cheese."

That would be Lexington (CV-16). She loves to shoot turkeys.

Enterprise on the other hand is more a rival to Zuikaku and their rivalry was NOT one-sided. Both were at Pearl Harbor and Enterprise was essentially powerless. At the Eastern Solomons, CarDiv 5 spanked Enterprise hard and received no damage in return and at Santa Cruz, they sunk Enterprise's sister Hornet and left the Big E herself heavily damaged and only managing to get away by sheer luck. It wasn't until the Battle of the Philippine Sea that Enterprise came out on top and that time, she had 6 CVs and 8 CVLs backing her up while Zuikaku could only count on 2 CVs, 3 CVLs, and 3 "CV"s (lol). Even when the crane went down at the Battle of Cape Engaño, she managed to do so in a way that made the victory feel bitter ("Where is TF 34 the world wonders").

The way I see it, EnterKaku would meet in a bro-fist of legends.

in term of hard spec, both ships were also very similar, with Zuikaku having the more passive defense such as armor and torpedo bulge while also maintaining superiority in horsepower and speed, while Enterprise had stronger active defense such as her radar, damage control, and AA prowess. They both carried similar numbers of planes, with Zuikaku emphasizing torpedo bombers and their powerful oxygen(?) torpedoes, while Enterprise relied on her dive bombers and their heavy armor-piercing bombs.

The garden-variety Type 91, the IJN's principal aerial torpedo throughout the war, was powered by compressed air. IJN engineers tried to develop an aerial version of the Type 93 "Long Lance" oxygen torpedo (used by surface ships), designated Type 94, but as far as I know it was never operational--even after being reduced in size for aerial use, it was too bulky and heavy.

(Also, oxygen torpedoes had an annoying habit of going off prematurely if subjected to shock--Choukai, for instance, was wrecked by her own torpedoes going off en masse after she was hit by a single 5" shell--and being dropped from an airplane isn't exactly gentle.)

    Thank you for the correction.
