It's magic mecha that used a Summoner tuner to link with the TAs (think mini mecha / Arm Slave cross) to improve the performance of the units due to Mile One being basically magic.

Think FMP meets Ghost in the Shell and some Utawarerumono.

I just watched the Gasaraki Opening but I still don't get what the third panel is supposed to mean

You probably only have a vague memory because the show itself was vague, and also dumb IMO both in plot and technology. My biggest issue being it presented no plausible explanation why these mechs wouldn't have their shit ruined in a real battle, which many shows don't, but most shows also don't have pretensions toward "realism" which it definitely did and given that the plot largely revolves around the stupid demon mech that's a problem on both fronts.

I just watched it too and I think the third panel is a reference to the heavy breathing you hear around the beginning alongside the heartbeat.

I'm curious about the scene that the final panel is referencing in all honesty.

I took no it's one of the latter episodes, but I can't remember which. The series is in Crunchyroll now, so I'll have to find time to rewatch it.
