    Champagne is proletarian, any "champagne socialist" would agree!

    Come to think of it, what did political censorship look like in the West back in Cold War days? Did they burn every book that promoted communism or something?

    Champagne is anything but bourgeoisie. Rykov ordered to create cheap, quick to produce and easily obtainable wine in 20s and Soviet Champagne were produced en masse from 1937. Ido need to do his homework.

    Correction - Over-zealous Comrade Tiny One needs to do her homework and not label the slightest hint of luxury as 'bourgeois'.

    Although technically, you can't have Soviet Champagne (In English at least), since it's not from Champagne, France (And indeed, EU law forbids it outright). It'd just be 'Soviet Sparkling Wine' - so if this is the genuine, French, article it could definitely be perceived as at least a little bourgeois.

    Well Gangut too had enough of Tiny One's bourgeois shenanigans and started taming her. If this went on it'd be Verniy who's prosecuted for making it sound like communism is the bitter enemy of dignity.

    Except genuine champagne can be the same thing, after Moët bought the license to use a technological production used in "Soviet Champagne" in 1975.

    Regardless of the process involved, it's illegal to call it 'champagne' unless that process fits with the CIVC regulations, and made in, and using grapes from Champagne, it's not legally allowed to be called Champagne.

    Even if they use a process from the Soviets, it's unlikely to be completely the same at any rate.

    And as always, the popular consciousness in the West (which kinda incudes Japan here), Champagne is always thought of as a fancy wine, for special occasions only - and thus bourgeois (to Verniy there).

    Putting all that proletarian and bourgeois stuff aside, their sibling-like(parent-child like)interaction warms my heart XD

    I see it more of Big Sister/Little Sister, but, yeah, same sentiment.

    And, boy, is it so easy to make Hibiki/Verniy change her mind.

    Maybe, I'm not exactly right about all beverages, but as a general idea:

    Beverage Made
    in USSR?

    (it was actually good until 90s, but utter crap nowadays
    was utter crap from around 2005 to 2023 when our breweries
    stopped being owned by international concerns and suddenly
    remembered how to make good beer)
    Wine?not so popularyesport wine was a thing among teenagers, though,
    but not really proletarian - more like anarchist
    Champagne
    Sparkling Wine
    Oproletarianyesis mainly consumed on the New Year, as a tradition;
    otherwise not so popular (The only ones to drink Champagne
    in the morning would be aristocrats and degenerates!

    - from The Diamond Arm )
    Cognac
    Brandy
    Xbourgeoisyesmainly consumed by the intelligentsia: artists,
    professors, doctors, scientists and also government workers
    WhiskyXbourgeoisnocontaminating influence of the rotting West
    TequilaXbourgeoisnocontaminating influence of the rotting West
    RumXbourgeoisnocontaminating influence of the rotting West
    although there were some attempts (ru) to produce it locally

    Also,

    • Kvass - [O proletarian], enough said. It was not considered as an alcoholic beverage, so it was legal to make it at home;
    • Liqueurs and Nalewkas were also a thing, but they were mostly self-made.

    Also, a fair amount of home-brew beverages have always been around: home-distilled vodka aka Samogon and home-made wine, although producing them was a jailable offence. Nowadays it is legal to make any kind of alcoholic beverage without licence, as long as it is for home consumption. You can even buy a distiller openly now.
