To be precise, those bamboo spears had some extra tricks done at the tip to combat tanks more effectively. That's, of course, assuming the user reaches the tank without getting pulverized by machine guns AND the damn explosive even works.
And the Russians witnessed the same misery when they came down to Manchuria in August 1945. (Or rather even worse, since all Japanese war effort was focused on the Pacific.)

Actually, this "bamboo spear" was also used by Indonesia during the Japanese occupation. Kinda funny how they wrote about it in history books, about how Indonesian soldiers used guerrilla warfare tactics coupled with bamboo spears to whittle down unlucky Japanese soldiers.
