I used to play minesweeper at work a lot before a co-worker told me that sometimes they could hear my fast clicking... so I bought a mouse that clicked very quietly.

Minesweeper isn't that hard... Once you get through the luck of the first couple of clicks, it's mostly straightforward logic.

If you can't beat minesweeper, you either have terrible luck, or can't count. My faith in humanity depends heavily on you all being of the former.

Hisari, thank you so much for that cursor. It's great.

Also, unless you people are trolling, here is a quick crash-course on Minesweeper.

If you click a field, usually a number appears. The number indicates the ammount of mines that are surrounding it (note that a field can be surrounded by nine fields, including the diagonally touching fields).

Your task is to figure out where those mines are. If you click more fields, you will eventually figure it out.

If you're uncertain whether there is a mine or not but you think there is a high chance of it, right-click the field to add a flag and come back to it later. For each flag you use, the number on the top goes down (as the original number stands for the ammount of mines on the game-field). That helps you keeping track of the mines, although you can add as many flags as you wish.

Also, sometimes you click a field and a bunch of others will just open as well. That means that there are no mines in these fields (so there are no 0-fields (zero-fields) either.

Two good things that you can and should always do:
    - Start in the corners. It usually reveals a lot of fields.
    - Fields that are standing alone or are touching only three, two or one fields with numbers are always mines. I can't think of exceptions but there might be some.

Man, I think I just did something good for all of mankind. So bump.

My problem is that one of my first 4 clicks is ALWAYS a mine. To test (as I haven't played in years) I made a custom 50x50 field with 10 mines. I played 5 games. In 3 of those 5 games the mine was the first one I clicked. The other two took 2 and 4 clicks respectively. This is of course picking as far away from each other as possible.

I'm not normally unlucky, but I do have infamously bad luck with computer-related chance.

Actually, I just tried a few more 50x50/10 games and managed to win a few. But it's still some pretty bad luck.

Too bad minesweeper is made so that the first field you click can never be a mine.
Also, this game is not a bit about luck.

    I love minesweeper.

There is a genuine thrill when you have all the board cleared except 4 spaces, and you know 3 of them are mines, but there is no logical way to predict which!

You must defy fate and thrust your mouseclick forth with all your might! Only then can you become a true Minesweeper!

This guy made a version that doesn't require any guessing:

Some other nice puzzle games there, too.

Hehe, have faith Chibi Miku. Don't let your game persona die! On youtube, there's a video called Minesweeper: The movie. It's amusing.

Just depends on general area of where ya click, but it can happen. I've had it happen many times back in the days I played it.

Actually, there's more than one version of the program floating around, even if we're just talking about the one that comes default with Windows. Some will let you hit a mine on the first click, others retcon things if that happens.

Ah, I'm good at Minesweeper. 7 second Beginner time.

And the random clicking is always the gut-wrenching bit, especially if you already marked some mines before-hand.
