I saw the thumbnail and thought, "I really hope this is the picture that I think it is." Lo and behold, it was. Seriously, this picture is basically what goes through my mind whenever a dating sim doesn't let you pick your gender. (Although, I'm much more lenient on DDLC than on other dating sims considering DDLC's true nature...)

I kind of feel differently on the subject. It feels really bad when there's a choice for genders, but the game doesn't change any of the interactions at all because they assume you picked the "default" one.
Remember that Monika doesn't actually know what you look like, and doesn't even know if you're a boy or a girl, admitting as much herself. She just sticks with "boyfriend" because the MC is his own male persona, and the only way she can interact with you is through him.
Really, I think this was intentional on Dan's part. The "original" DDLC is meant to be cliched and shallow, which is why Monika is obsessed with breaking out of it and getting "real" interaction. The game's as much of a dating sim parody as it is a horror game, finding meta ways to deconstruct and poke fun at dating anime/sims/etc.
If you misgender me again, I'll pull the plug on you.You really are a good boyfriend!
