    this is a typical Chinese style dress, not Japanese style.

    The Chinese Ancient Hanfu often partially reveal long probe under the coat, unlike jap kimono. The Japanese version also ties up the hairs, show the back neck, barely release the long hairs like in this picture. The patterns on the clothes are also different.

    the 七夕 mentioned in artist's commentary is also a Chinese festival from Jing dynasty, fits the corresponding example in the link.
