At least you can sortie to each X-1 map you've unlocked so far, but since for example 3-2 need 1-5 cleared to be opened, it's basically a fresh restart from 1-1, yeah.
You can start from map 1 of each area you cleared, but all the maps are different now as well, so all the resources from wiki and others are useless. And they added 2 new worlds I think.

Overall the new maps are better than the old ones. The only ones that are worse are 2-5 and 5-5 and only worse in particular situations, specifically for quests like bm7. 5-4 is no longer ranking heaven, thankfully. If you can use the optimum fleet however then the maps are easier.

You Forgot, that you Need a Fast+ Fleet for guaranteed Routing on 5-5-
And looks like all sorts of stuff is moving nice and smoothly now!
