Dunno in Japan, but here those nets don't used as much anymore. A hassle to clean, a bit of a potential fire hazard, and sprays are just more practical for the lazy.

When the humidity is high, those living closer to the equator would want to have such kind of mosquito nets or they get bitten like some Swiss cheese. I still used some until I got air conditioner to keep it cold in the room so no mosquito would stay in.
