So why does Hiei always call Haruna for these check-ins?

Because she just punches the top name in her phone's favorites, and Haruna is alphabetically first?

Or maybe it's because Kongou or Kirishima might actually get in on her fun if she calls them.

    Haruna, definitely Haruna.

A couple pages and events off. But close enough, I think. Little miss understanding she is after all.

But in Japanese order, Kirishima is first! (Then Kongou, then Haruna.)

Now that you mention it, how do the Japanese sort their phone contacts?

Do they have to input both Hiragana and Kanji (and sort by Hiragana), or do they just input Kanji and have the phone sort by guessing its most probable pronunciation?

Phones/computers, you type in normal Romanji still and your predictive typing kicks in.

So if i type in "k" "a" my phone/computer will predict for Hirgana "ka" followed by some Kanji that starts with "Ka" in order of most common usage.

Basically yeah. Some systems can use the input that you used to get the reading, and then sort by the goujon, otherwise it either just takes the most common reading for the kanji you put in, or it just grabs the position of the first kanji in the giant kanji sorting list (which is done by radical.)

However! Contact lists in phones have the very handy furigana fields as standard (and will usually auto-populate when you fill in the contact, same as good websites), so it's less an issues than you'd think.

Plus, with smartphones being what they are, it's less of a 'scroll to this location in the phonebook' and more 'eliminate all entries that don't have this kanji' system.

Almost everyone I know doesn't use romaji input on phones though, it's done through flick input (swipe to the consonant, then the vowel, voicing/punctuation is separate) or ye olde Japanese-style T9 on Galakei. The Japanese IME on Android even defaults to flick, IIRC. (if you have the OS set to Japanese, anyway). But yeah, all the IMEs do prediction by frequency (and usage patterns, which was a later development) as well as auto-correction (especially if you type in romaji on a phone).

I litreally don't understand flick input at all. I can't get used to it. It feels slower to me. So i still input via romanji. My sister back for oldschool phones also got the hang of T9 input and I don't that either. Maybe it's because i'm an uneducated savage that uses a lot of slang or something but I don't "Understand" T9 or Flick.

I also turn off predictive text on my phones all the time cause it's always predicting wrong for me. Especially since I "Don't talk right" like an un-educated bastard.

It's funny you say everyone you know uses flick input, cause everyone I know types in Romanji. Including my japanese friends.

The resemblance is pretty significant: post #3228723

    Differences:
Akatsuki has a biconvex central hair lobe over her forehead, Haruna's has one side concave at least in this image.
Akatsuki is flat compared to Haruna's bust.
