I like how Iowa keeps popping up every time someone declares as a Red.

Wonder what's really the deal with America and Commies. I mean, it's not like America is still banning socialism... Or are they??

Any how, Russia, Soviet or not, still will be USA's rival for sure, and the Liberty people really doesn't care getting close to a certain commie for green, do they?

I think Gangut actually may not like Soviet Union. At least not even miss it. Because she was there before USSR existed. while mutined for it

Socialism is still a four letter word in a lot of America. Though McCarthyism and its ilk are thankfully dead "officially", identifying as a socialist/democratic socialist/etc. is still a political death sentence for most aspiring politicians. There are very few places in the country (basically the bluest of blue districts) where it's not treated with outright condemnation.

It's more the older generations that are so unbending on that front. Bernie Sanders ran as a self-avowed Socialist, and the older generation tried to laugh him off, but he made a strong showing for the Democratic nomination for President, even well outside of blue states.

Beyond that, though, it's not like America's the only place that has a hard-line anti-Communist bent, and you can hear far more virulent screeds about the evils of Communism in certain parts of South America or the like, although that's usually from the Fascist political parties.

That used to be true, but it's becoming less and less so. There are multiple basically main stream democrats that are now just flat out calling their agendas "democratic-socialism" and the conservative demonization attempts are becoming less and less effective.

You forget Asia. See: Philippines and Indonesia.

Indonesian's anti-communism fervor can be so ridiculous that just displaying hammer and sickle can ended in police detention.
Even Liberals here generally quite averse to be associated with communism or socialism in general.

Back in Soeharto era, being suspected commie will ruin not just you but also your family. You'll have to regularly report to the authorities that you've repented from your wicked commie ways, say goodbye to any hope of getting government jobs, be treated as a pariah, oh and when you die they will periodically dig up your grave to make sure it's not fake.

Notice that I mention the word "suspected". Yeah, a lot of those "commie scum" were actually illiterate or semi-illiterate farmers and labors who joined the local unions because they were promised to get their concerns heard. When the Hunt began, the New Order jackboots took the list of these union members and basically went "yep, totally Godless bastards, all of them".

In Germany we had a very special problem: Being separated during the cold war into the west-oriented Federal Republic of Germany (NATO) and the German Democratic Republic (Warsaw Pact), the FRG had a rather paranoid way to deal with communism. The revolt of the students in the late 60's lead to a phase of terrorism by a group calling themselves "Red Army Faction". The GDR was supporting them, hoping to destabilize the country of the "Klassenfeind". There was some sympathy from left-oriented students for the goals of the terrorists. This lead the government to the concept, that universities were breeding places of communism. The consequence was, that, when you applied for a job in the civil service, there was a regular inquiry at the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. If they had any trace of communism on you, f.e. you were seen on a demonstration organized by communists or had friends, who openly sympathized with the terrorists, you wouldn't get the job. The special twist was, that you never were informed, WHY exactly you weren't hired.

    Indonesian anti-communism is sick though.

In west, communism might be hated for image of authoritarianism (and for denying you from becoming rich)
but in Indonesia, the hate is strongly related to the propaganda that communism = atheism, thus cementing communist as enemy of the religion and enemy of God.
Seriously, when threat of communism is brought up there, it's never about how it ruins life for people, but instead about how it is anti-religion.

Fun Fact: There was a Soviet Battleship project known as "Project 23" which focused on the building of the "Sovetskiy Soyuz" class battleships. Though, the battleships were never finished as the project was cut and resources went on to supply the army instead.
