Hasn't the "poor girl" been through a lot as a result of them trying to kill the hero and slaughering villagers in the process? I get the feeling that little details is being ignored here, in favor of trying to portray her as absolutely miserable with humans and fine with monsters.

Well it doesn't go into detail just how destructive the humans are being. As in any war both sides can cause destruction against the other side. This story could revolve around the humans getting their fair share of attacks like any war, but going well and beyond the means of defending themselves by pushing most of the responsibility onto the "hero" and making her a miserable mess.

In other words, the hero is both their "sword and shield" and is meant to take on all their pain involving the war and if she doesn't, be it within reason or not, she is treated like utter crap. The monsters oddly enough aren't so much expected to take on the burden in the same way, at least as far as the story currently goes, as no single monster is the sole bearer of the trials and tribulations the war has created. So there's not so much as "good guys vs. bad guys" but reasonable expectations vs. absolute selfishness.

There's also the possibility that she's so negative to the point of thinking everything is her fault.

Her parents dead? Her fault.
The village got razed? Her fault.
Monsters in this world? Her fault.

She doesn't feel any resentment or hatred towards the monsters. If anything, she's pretty much given up on living but doesn't have the courage to take her own life. So she ended up just doing whatever the kingdom asks of her to simply 'survive'.

It was mentioned a few pages ago that her *OWN VILLAGE* turned on her and murdered her parents because monsters kept raiding it because it was her home. Then there was her muttering that she might be executed for *treason* if she didn't kill the Demon Lord. So yeah, lot of pressure.

Well, there are all kind of demons.
Lower ones might not be very bright or even sentient. They may attack out of a sense of danger.

Then, the same goes with humans. There are brighter ones and there are ones moving on their sense of danger alone and blame it on people or straight off killing them.

Just a cycle of negativity.
