Unfortunately we have yet to get out hovercars. That said I hope I'm still around when we finally do.
The problem with flying cars isn't that we can't make them (arguably, a helicopter is a 'flying car'), it's that they're wildly energy-inefficient, so until we get fusion power or some other practically free energy source, they won't happen.
