  • Eagle Nebula

Because a bit of astronomy is never too much:
This astonishing cloud of dust, hydrogen and other gases is located in the constellation Serpens, about 7000 light-years distant from the Earth, and is one of the most known nebulae. It's a young cluster of stars, only 5,5 million year old.Its name comes from the cloud that resembles an eagle.
In the beginning of 1995, the Hubble Space Telescope took a photograph that became known as the Pillars of Creation inside the nebula and it shows a large area of star formation. The biggest of these columns of gas and dust is about 7 light-years long.
Recent studies suggest that those pillars don't exist anymore. 6000 years ago they were destroyed by a supernova, but light takes time to travel and we might have to wait 1000 years to notice its extinction.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

I've been researching astronomical stuff and a photo of the Eagle Nebula inspired me to do some simple illustration on my watercolour sketchbook - Ugh this paper takes so long to dry - The white area was done with my fingers because I think I am a brush.

Materials used: Winsor & Newton watercolours on watercolour sketchbook, water-brush, acrylic paint, coloured pencils.
