nah, its because in the show, anzio was considered so insignificant, they just mentioned that ooarai utterly wrecked them in the tournament instead of actually animating an episode. and this show had two recap episodes back to back

That's presumably part of why. I mean, they may not have planned to have 2 recap episodes, and planned to have an actual Anzio match, but they couldn't complete the rest of the show in time, so skipped the Anzio match and threw in a recap to buy time.
