...Huh. I'm not exactly a big fan of RinMari, and some other stuff in the plot had me sort of rolling my eyes too, but the epilogue really helped salvage a lot of it.
Marisa threw away her humanity and Reimu faced her as she should. Reimu received a crippling injury to her arms and has to retire but she doesn't mind it all that much because she can live on as a human.and get those sweet benefits for disabled veterans. Marisa on the other hand is struggling with the emptiness where her humanity used to be. Her friendship with Reimu is effectively over, yet she feels neither regret nor satisfaction at her victory and doesn't know what to make of it. Instead focusing on her relationship with Kourin to fill the hole. Kourin himself feels responsible for partly causing the whole mess in the first place and it's hinted he doesn't like Marisa's personality change much either.
That's the feeling i get from it. The climax of the story's supposed to be "HA, Fooled you! Reimu lives!" But it doesn't deliver it very well.

I understand that part. It's just that this final page kinda suggests the crippling injury isn't so crippling as it appeared, with the extra implication behind it.
Maybe she's just able to lift her arms after passing through the torii as that represents the final weight of being the Hakurei Miko being lifted off of her? Anyway, you'd think Yukari would be really pissed at Marisa for this
