I am happy to see Kaban again, but also quite disgusted at the director of the second season for doing so. He clearly didn't have any plan when he put that 'I don't remember her' from Serval, yet there she is. Can't help but to think this is quite disrespectful of the first season.

I understand why some people like you might be upset for this. But I can't help but love this emotional meeting after so long time for both of them. I even couldn't hold the tears. And sincerely the new director hasn't been doing it that bad.

Don't play games, but as an interested and very vague observer I am utterly stunned than a new clone girl to Kaban has been introduced, and makes the same friends as the lost one: interchangeability ( as in the Idealist American fundamental [ 'Blank Slate' thesis ] that all people have the same potential to be anything they want, and are of exactly the same value if they remake themselves ) not only devalues personal individuality, but makes all things meaningless.
If Serval is happy with anyone who replaces Kaban, then her love for Kaban is not a personal love but something than can be suited to anyone of the right size and shape.
I'd like to believe Japan is on fire over this, with mass riots a la les gilets jaunes, protesting for sweet Kaban, but prolly not...
My friend, I think you are indeed a very vague observer as people are angry that this is disrespecting to Tatsuki. Kaban was an original character made by Tatsuki, you see. Kaban herself is not the main focus.
I wonder how they will explain Kaban and Serval getting separated for so long that Serval forgot about her without going the stupid cat route.
Serval more or less did become a simple cat girl who only knows how to say 'Sugoi' and 'Tanoshi' like a broken record in this season...I really miss Serval who always remembered to support her friends beyond being a simple girl.
Honestly, watching Kemono Friends 2 has been one of the most painful things I sat through in awhile, at least as far as anime goes, and I think I consider myself rather tolerant of crappy shows.
I had no interest in Kemono Friends 1 at episode 1, but ended up hooked by episode 3. Haven’t felt anything similar with this series and currently not expecting it. Even if I will watch it to the end, that is simply fueled by my feelings for the first show and my curiousity on where the new studio will take the series. It’s nothing that the current show has earned on its own.

I assume it's the same reason why the one from the first season didn't (consciously) remember Mirai, i.e., the season-2 one is a further iteration. Somewhere along the way, she got the old Ceruelan Reset. (And Kaban either knew that already, or quickly deduced it, which is why she doesn't do the "don't you remember me" routine.)
