Literally the only outcry is from a gaggle of Twitterati and Tumblrina feminists getting triggered over “muh bikini armor is sexual objectivization and muh-soggy-knee.”
Just mock them until they shut up and hope that there are no “cultural localizers” attached to this project to stuff her into a hijab to cater the Neo-puritans.

I'll give you my hot-take:
The short-answer is that I don't think it's offensive per se. She just looks boring to me.
The long answer is that I have no problem with what they're trying to achieve with the design. I love Xenoblade Chronicles 2's character designs for instance, warts and all. However, the problem I have with Byleth's design here is that lacks equilibrium. The overall aesthetic is kind of a mess, like some areas of her design are given too much attention, and other areas are given too little attention. It lacks that up-and-down symmetry that would have made the design really neat and eye-popping. Intelligent Systems has designed female characters across the coolness/sexiness gradient in the past, so this one is kind of underwhelming compared to other character designs.
^ Thank you for your input. I'm simplistic, so for most things I'll just like it or not, without much thought as of why, but I do see what you mean, however, I actually find that mess kinda charming (but then again, it might just be me being too simplistic).

It's mostly the bizarre leggings and booty shorts that draw the most ire. I don't have a problem with slight adjustments to make the female design cuter but I think they went too far, making her look trashy and unprofessional compared to her male counterpart that looks cool and regal. I'm on board with her design from the waist up, however.
