Remember when Kaban said that after a cerulean turns a friend back to animal form, their memories don't return even after being transformed into a friend again? That must be what happened.

In Servals' case, it's nothing short of a miracle that she faintly remembered about Kaban. Remember those times when they discussed about this? Serval could be seen visibly distressed when they mentioned how a Friend's personality would get reset each time they got attacked by a Cerulean. That must be a sign that somehow Serval knew that she was missing some memories, and important memories at that.

If you look in season 1, there's the episode where Serval cries when she sees Mirai. I think that means that when friends go between generations like that, or when attacked by a Cerulean, they don't actually lose all their memories but rather the memories become like a fading dream that you faintly remember but as time goes on they start to fade. It makes sense when you consider this entire episode in addition to that scene in the first season with Serval.
